If you inherit an IRA from someone other than your spouse, you cannot convert it to a Roth IRA. Assets in a 401(k) can be converted, but few do so.
Q.: Dan, Thanks for the piece on inheriting retirement accounts. I bet very few beneficiaries ever think about converting a 401(k) to a Roth account. I would think avoiding RMDs through a Roth account would prompt more to convert. Is that hard to do or something?
